Is it possible for Christians to obey all the *ten commandments*?
Bible passages:
Gen 2:15-17; Gen 3:1-5,6;
Discussion:
The instruction or commandment of God starts from the garden of Eden when God told Adam that “you may eat the fruit from any tree in the garden but you must not eat the fruit from the tree which gives the knowledge of good and evil” Gen 2:15-17.
In Gen 3:6 the bible tells us that the woman (Eve) saw that the tree was beautiful that it’s fruit was good to eat, so she ate and gave some of the fruit to her husband.
This was only one instruction that Adam and Eve struggled with; what is the possibility of them keeping the Ten Commandments?
This shows us that with human nature we can not please or obey God because the devil is always there as a deceiver. Gen 3: 1-4 illustrated how the devil deceived Eve.
We mentioned about the benefits of obeying the Ten Commandments and agreed that they are all for our benefits, so literally it should be easy to obey.
We then focused on the importance of the Holy Spirit. In the Old Testament the Holy Spirit was not available at the time, the bible tells us in the book of Leviticus that there are different kinds of sacrifices for remission of sin:
Sin offering Leviticus 4
Penalty offering Leviticus 5
Accidentally sin Leviticus 5
There are a lot of references in the bible that showed how the Israelites disobeyed God. 2Kings 7-18 The Lord used every prophet and seer to warn Israel and Judah. “He said stop your evil ways and obey my commands and laws. Follow all the teaching that I commanded your ancestors, the teaching that I gave you through my servants the prophets”. The Israelites could not keep the commandments of God.
Jesus then came to make the ultimate sacrifice for our sins
We later concluded that it is difficult to keep the Ten Commandments because the primary aim of the devil is to destroy.
Paul warned the Corinthians that minds will be led away from the truth and following of Christ just as Eve was tricked by the devill. Paul also said the things that he didn’t want to do; he finds himself doing them. Therefore, we need to always pray and allow the Holy Spirit to direct us.
Without the Holy Spirit it is impossible to obey the commandments of God.
Praise God
